John Deere Launches New Self-Repair Tool for farmers, Technicians

John Deere has launched a new service tool that enables farmers to perform their own equipment maintenance and repairs

John Deere launched a new digital service tool, the Operations Center PRO, designed to help farmers and technicians diagnose machine problems and maintain and repair equipment.

“Our development of these tools reaffirms John Deere’s support of customer self-repair,” says Denver Caldwell, vice president of Aftermarket and Customer Support with John Deere. “We view continuously enhancing self-repair as consistent with our mission to ensure John Deere customers have the best machine ownership experience possible.”

The tool is available in the John Deere Operations Center app for equipment owners in the U.S. and Canada.

The Operations Center PRO Service replaces the older Customer Service ADVISOR tool, which will be phased out within the next year. It offers expanded features designed to provide real-time support and comprehensive repair content filtered by equipment year and model.

Independent repair technicians can also subscribe to the tool.

Farmers purchasing the tool will pay an annual license fee starting at $195 per machine, while independent service providers will pay $5,995 annual fee for up to 10 local application downloads. With the equipment owner’s permission, independent technicians can access diagnostic and repair data to assist with machine upkeep.

“Our message to our customers is clear,” Caldwell said. “Whether you want the support of your professionally trained and trusted John Deere dealer, to work with another local service provider or to fix your machine yourself, we’ve created additional capabilities for you to choose the option that best fits your needs.”

Key features for farmers and technicians include:

  • Machine health insights and diagnostic trouble codes
  • PIN-specific machine content, including manuals
  • Software reprogramming for John Deere controllers
  • Diagnostic readings and recordings
  • Interactive diagnostic tests
  • Calibrations

This rollout comes amid the FTC v. John Deere Right to Repair lawsuit, where concerns were raised about the manufacturer’s previous restrictions on software codes and diagnostic capabilities for farmers and third-party repair professionals. In 2023, John Deere and the American Farm Bureau Federation signed a memorandum of understanding that guaranteed farmers and ranchers would have the right to repair their own farm equipment.

The launch of the Operations Center PRO Service appears to build on those commitments, offering new tools that can reduce downtime and give equipment owners more control over how and when their machines are serviced.
